This subspecies is more commonly known as the northwest bornean orangutan.

The northwest bornean orangutan is a subspecies of the bornean orangutan and is known to live on the border between Sarawak, Malaysia and West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

It is thought that around 3000 individuals exist in the wild.
