This subspecies is more commonly known as the northeast bornean orangutan.

The northeast bornean orangutan is the smallest of the three subspecies of the bornean orangutan.

Its natural habitat are the forests of Sabah, Malaysia and East Kalimantan, Indonesia on the island of borneo.
