Gorillini contains all gorillas and their extinct ancestors which are not directly related to the hominini tribes which contains chimpanzees and humans.

 

It is believed that the gorillini and hominini were first distinguishable from one another around 7 million years ago.

 

The only extant genus of the gorillini tribe is the gorilla, which contain all known extant species of gorilla.
