Bilaterally symmetrical animals
SPECIES: Agile Gibbon
The agile gibbon is sometimes referred to as the black handed gibbon.
The agile gibbon is an outstandingly good brachiator, hence its name. Due to this ability they rarely need to come to the ground.
The agile gibbon displays a reddish colour generally, although the redness can be so dark that the fur would appear to be black.
They are found on the Malay peninsular on the border between Thailand and Malaysia, and on the island of Sumatra.
A subspecies of the agile gibbon, called the bornean white-bearded gibbon, is arguably a species of its own. However, this is not certainly known and therefore it is listed on this site among the agile gibbons.
